Jumbles

Jumbles are an enjoyable way to keep your brain working, and doing them helps you recognise patterns.

Rules: Unjumble all 4 of the word jumbles, then use the letters in the circled positions to form the surprise answer to the caption.

All of these jumbles are taken from the Herald Sun.

Hints

1. Spend a reasonable amount of time on each one. Don't be tempted to look at the answer until you're sure you can't figure it out.

2. All the words are commonly used ones. I have warned you when there is an obscure word, so you shouldn't need a dictionary.

3. Look for patterns, like 'ing' and 'er'. Many words have certain letter patterns. Then again, don't assume that just because there is a letter pattern like e and r that it will necessarily form the pattern you're looking for. Keep your mind open!

Target Word Puzzles

If you think you're confident with the jumbles, you might want to try the target words (or 'conundrums', as they're called on the TV show Letters and Numbers). Supposedly the reader must find as many words as he/she can in the 9 letters provided, also using the key letter. In my opinion it's much more interesting to directly attempt the 9-letter word - there is always one, and only one. Anyway, have a go at these. Solutions below, but please do not give up until you're absolutely sure there must be some kind of typo.
